Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1876 under Rev. Lemuel Henry Langford Jr., beginning in a small one‑room building with a faithful few. Over the years, the church grew under a succession of devoted pastors, including Rev. Lewis Chillis, Rev. Allen, Rev. S.J. Sanders, and Rev. P.H. Brown. A major era of growth came under Rev. Wyatt Gamble, who served more than 23 years and was beloved for his humility, dedication, and tireless service, even baptizing members in the local river and canal. After his passing, Rev. G.S. Mathews became pastor, leading Shiloh for 41 years, expanding the church property, strengthening its ministries, and encouraging unity through his message “One Church, One Body.”
Following the passing of Rev. G.S. Mathews in 1995, Rev. Isreal E. Holmes was elected pastor in 1996, marking a historic moment in the church’s 120‑year history. Under Pastor Holmes’ leadership, Shiloh continues to grow spiritually as he encourages every member to use their God‑given gifts for the glory of God.
